EYFS
At Benton Dene Primary School we provide a high-quality EYFS education giving children a secure and confident start to their school life. We are committed to nurturing a lifelong love of learning alongside the aims of the EYFS statutory framework. We strive for high standards, consider the development of the whole child and seek to foster resilience and independence.
We aim to provide the essential knowledge that children need to prepare them for their future success and to give children the best possible start to their early education.
We provide inviting classroom environments indoors and outdoors to stimulate learners and engage them in developing the three ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ as set out within the EYFS.
“The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn" Maria Montessori
Staffing & Organisation
At Benton Dene Primary School we have two Reception classes which caters for 60 children (30 in each class) and 2 nursery classes (26 children in one class and 39 children in another class). Each Reception class has an EYFS class teacher and EYFS class teaching assistant. Across the Nursery we have 2 EYFS teachers and 3 EYFS teaching assistants.
Children start in our Nursery and Reception from a range of local playgroups and day nurseries as well as coming from surrounding areas: Gosforth, Jesmond, Wideopen and Killingworth.
We carefully plan our EYFS curriculum to meet the following aims:
- To foster a love of learning which inspires curiosity.
- To provide experiences of awe and wonder to enrich children’s vocabulary.
- To ensure all children have access to high quality learning opportunities.
- To provide parents/carers with the opportunity to develop their child’s learning at home.
- To develop knowledge and understanding of the community and wider world.
