Uniform and Re:Uniform
We would like to thank all parents and children who support our Uniform policy.
At Benton Dene Primary School our uniform is important and all pupils are expected to wear it. Governors have approved the following;
Uniform
- Navy blue sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan
- Yellow polo shirt (foundation stage), green polo shirt (year 1/2) red polo shirt (year 3/4), royal blue polo
shirt (year 5/6) - Grey, navy blue or black skirt or trousers
- Gingham summer dress in either navy blue or year group colours (optional)
- White, grey, navy blue or black socks/tights
- Black sensible shoes or plain all-black trainers (coloured trainers or coloured patterns/logos are not permitted)
- Wellies or a change of footwear for adverse weather
- Nursery pupils can wear an optional sweatshirt, which is royal blue.
P.E. Kit
Benton Dene PE and Games kit is available to purchase from Emblematic and comprises a navy blue and red top with matching shorts and socks.
Children can wear PE kit on the days that they have a PE lesson.
A change of footwear is essential for PE/games.
Children do not have to wear our branded school PE kit and can also wear plain black PE shorts and a plain white T-Shirt.
DESIGNER SPORTSWEAR IS NOT SUITABLE FOR SCHOOL AND IS NOT ALLOWED.
Jewellery
Jewellery should not be worn. The only exception to this is that children with pierced ears may wear a maximum of TWO simple stud type or safety earrings; one in each ear. Other body piercing is not acceptable for school and loop earrings are considered unsuitable. For health and safety reasons pupils CAN NOT wear earrings for PE/games/swimming. They should either not wear them on days when they have sport or remove them themselves before lessons begin. Staff are not allowed to take out earrings. This is for the safety of the pupil and others and agreed by North Tyneside in their safety rules for schools.
Smart/sensible watches may be worn to school when pupils can tell the time; watches capable of taking photos are not permitted.
Jewellery and watches are the responsibility of the pupil and not the school. Lost or damaged items will not be refunded.
Hair
The school reserves the right to make a judgement on where pupils’ hairstyles or hair colours are inappropriate for the school environment.
For health and safety reasons, children should refrain from wearing excessive gels/sprays/colouring/dyes as well as other hair products/accessories (such as large hairbands or artificial plaits or hair extensions), as well as being a safety risk these can be a source of distraction for children. Any form of ‘extreme’ hairstyle including ‘Mohawk’ type hairstyles; shaven hair with 'tramlines' or patterns or bleaching is strictly prohibited, again because of the disruption that this can cause to teaching and learning.
Long hair (shoulder length and longer) must be tied back when participating in PE lessons; again for pupil safety.
Makeup
The school rules on makeup are as follows:
- No makeup is permitted.
- Nail varnish, false nails and nail extensions are not permitted.
- Temporary tattoos are not permitted.
Uniform can be ordered from Emblematic Schoolwear, which has a shop located opposite Asda, on Benton Industrial Estate- http://emblematic.co.uk/
School uniform is also available to order from My Clothing online-
Alternatively, unbranded supermarket uniform matching the above colour descriptions can be worn.
The Re:Uniform Project
We have a wonderful group of parent volunteers from the Friends of Benton Dene who have set up the Re:Uniform project and have successfully applied for National Lottery community funding to establish a dedicated building to store and provide pre-worn school uniform. This project will support all of our families and children and prevent pre-worn clothing ending up in landfill.
Please visit the Re:Uniform site to find out more information about the scheme; how it can help you and how you can support the scheme too!
